Living into the purpose God has for you
God created us as creatures of desire with an internal drive to worship that is engineered into our very being. It is this desire that often prompts us to put our exceptional athletes, musicians, and film stars on a pedestal. At times, this desire can be misdirected by our own self-image resulting in a life focused on satisfying our ego’s insatiable hunger to draw attention to ourselves. When our yearnings are focused on finite people, things, or even ourselves, we will eventually grow weary of adoring them because of their limited ability to provide a lasting sense of purpose and meaning.
Throughout Scripture, the Hebrew word for worship (avodah) is closely linked to man’s role and purpose in life. This word means so much more to God’s people than the singing of hymns and listening to a sermon. It encompassed the activities of our work, our service to others, and our creative expressions in the arts. It embraces the totality of life and is not merely segregated to Sunday morning. At Pillar, we strive to come to a fuller experiential understanding of what it means to “glorify God and enjoy Him forever” in the entirety of our 24/7 lives.
